Al Jazeera Fellowship Programme — Request for Applications
A three-month research fellowship to support high-quality journalism and innovative research in the Global South. Fellows gain hands-on experience inside Al Jazeera Media Network and produce a 7,000-word research paper.

Fellowship structure
- Phase 1 (remote): Prepare & submit research plan + introduction.
- Phase 2 (onsite at AJMN HQ): Continue research, meet staff, finalize paper.

Eligibility — at a glance
- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree.
- Professional experience: ≥ 4 years as full-time journalist or researcher in media-related research.
- Strong research & writing skills, proven by work samples.
- Fluency in English (both written & spoken) is mandatory for the English track.

- Two letters of recommendation (PDF).
Missing documents = disqualification. Proposals must be original and written specifically for this fellowship.
How to prepare your proposal
Your proposal must be 1,000–1,500 words and include:
- Introduction & research questions.
- Importance & originality of the topic.
- Methodology and theoretical approaches.
- Data collection & analysis tools you will use.
- Expected challenges and mitigation.
- Practical impact: How journalists & Al Jazeera will benefit from the outcomes.
Selection process
A review committee evaluates applications based on eligibility, proposal relevance to AJMN and the wider journalism field, originality and research quality. Only the most competent candidates will be selected.

- Submit final 7,000-word research paper at the end of the fellowship.
